Ratchets fine. The head holds it's position very well. There is quite a bit of side-to-side movement where the head goes into the handle. I'm quite sure it has always been that way. If you were to drive the pin out and reinstall it with a thin nylon washer, it would tighten right up. Snap- on flex heads use that method.
